For 3-1/2 years, I’ve been overseeing a mother/son paid visitation in my home for 4 hours once a week. ( I felt God ‘nudging’ me to answer an ad I read on Sobeys’s bulletin board)
The dad has custody and drops off his 7 year old son. The mom meets them at my home. We eat our supper together, and mom and son spend time reading, playing games, building Lego, going outside, etc. So far, it has worked well for all of us!
A few months ago, the mom asked if I would be OK if she had her visitation with her son on Christmas day. She has never had a visitation on Christmas day since her divorce 4 years ago.
I honestly felt God ‘nudging’ me again to say yes to her request. I put myself in mom’s shoes. Her parents are divorced, live in BC, siblings are scattered, and she would be spending the day alone in her apartment away from her only child!
It turns out I would be having my son Adam’s family on the 26th and Christmas day would be spent with Ray and Brian (who was home from Toronto for 4 days). Although they were a little hesitant about spending 4 hours and dinner with 2 strangers, they felt it was the right thing to do.
After the boy opened up his mom’s gifts, we sat down to a turkey dinner. It felt so good to see how happy mom and son were to be able to spend that 4 hours together! The mom thanked me over and over, and dad was also very grateful that it all worked out.
I now can’t wait to see what God has in store for me in 2019, and what He will be ‘overshadowing or nudging’ me to do next.
