I work in a small office, within a warehouse/distribution centre, with mostly men. We decided to have a coat drive for the Salvation Army as Debbie, in our office, does some volunteer work there. We’ve done this in past years with moderate success. The first Goodness – within 2 weeks we had 30 coats, bags of hats, mitts and clothing! Overwhelming generosity!
I bought one blue coat to donate and felt I hadn’t contributed enough – people were giving multiple things.
Debbie delivered the donations with the help of a supervisor from the warehouse. When they arrived, a woman came in looking for a coat for her 13 year old son. There were only 2 other coats in the ‘store’ so they started opening the bags Debbie had brought. Some too big, some too small, then the women pulled out the blue coat and said ‘it’s perfect!’. Debbie saw the boy jumping around in the parking lot, delighting in his new coat. They were overcome with emotion seeing this and were so impacted that the story has been repeated several times back at the office and to all the warehouse staff and drivers. Wanting to do more, we’ve started another drive for Ray of Hope.
Even though I felt that I had given enough, God used what I gave and turned it into more.
2 Corinthians 9:8-11 – God is able to make every blessing of yours overflow for you, so that in every situation you will always have all you need for any good work.
